Because the river was in flood on the day before the match, we switched the venue to Halnaby Lake to give the 4 juniors who took poart in the event a better chance of a days fishing in safety. Unfortunately the heavy rain and strong winds of the pevous few days had quite a sever impact on the fishing.
Fishing her first match, Becky Wood drew peg 16 and as a lot of her fishing is for carp this really suited her. She started on the method feeder and a caught a bream of 2lbs 5oxs and lost a carp in the first hour. She then switched to fish the whip for a few small roach and perch. Switching back to the feeder she then had a 13lbs mirror carp, before trying a pole line and succesfully landing a common carp of 7lbs 13ozs.

Her total weight of 23lbs 11ozs made her a clear winner on the day, and the 13lbs carp also gave her the Specimen Fish Shield for this year. Her bream was also the heaviest bream of the day.
Ewan Lowther was second with 8lbs 11ozs from peg 9. He fished the pole all day and caught 4 bream to 1lb 12oz and shared the prize for the heaviest roach (2ozs) with Becky and Harry Michael .
Harry Michael worked hard all day for a scant return, finishing with 2lbs 12ozs from peg 13. He tried pole, whip and waggler, initially with maggot but later in the match found that he was able to get more bites on small pieces of worm which brought him the prize for the heaviest perch of the day at 4ozs.
Kane Hamilton found it even harder fishing on peg 12, finishing with 1lb 1oz.
