RESULTS OF THE KEVIN HEATH MEMORIAL JUNIOR CUP MATCH - 20 MAY 2023
Jenny "Queen of the Bream" Breeze won the match with 3 bream from peg 13, for a total of 6lbs 8ozs. She had her first fish on her first put-in on a short pole line, but then nothing so eventually switched to her tried-and-trusted feeder tactics.
Second was Daniel Blythe (peg 10) with 5lbs 12ozs of mainly feeder-caught bream and skimmers, and he would probably have won if he hadn't lost an early bream on the pole.
Holly Hutchinson (peg 2) and Ted Wood (peg 9) tied for third place with 5lbs. Ted had 1 big feeder-caught bream which boosted his weight, but Holly had several small skimmers in her catch (caught on pole to the lily pads mainly on small bits of worm) .
Jake Carter fished a feeder on peg 36, towards the middle of the lake, but failed to tempt any carp or bream from there. A switch to a feeder to just off the tree to his right did eventually bring him 2 bream for a weight of 3lbs 13ozs.
Newcomer Keenan Azzami, who had never fished before, managed to catch 1 good bream, lost a smaller one, and had several small perch and roach for a total of 3lbs 10ozs on a 4m whip and maggot on peg 26.
His brother Jielan Maharey used the same tactics on peg 25, but failed to match his brother in terms of the number of small fish and the size of his bream, giving him a final weight of 2lbs 2ozs.
Brothers Sammy and Elijah Macauley fished pegs 30 and 31, with Elijah coming out on top with 1lb 7ozs including a perch of 6ozs. Sammy had 1lb, with a perch of 6ozs but not enough other perch and roach to match his brother.
Sam Suess had 13ozs from peg 5, with his heaviest fish being a roach of 3ozs.
Theo Nicholson had 8oz from peg 37, Dexter Cairns had 2ozs (having lost a bream on feeder tactics to the weed-bed to his left), and Sebastian Boyer had 1oz.
There was a 4-way tie for the heaviest bream (2lbs 15ozs) between Jenny,Ted, Dan and Keenan.
