Browning very kindly sponsored a Juniors match which was “opened up” to members of Stockton Angling Limited, Thornaby Angling Association and Darlington Brown Trout. Conditions on the day looked perfect, with sunny intervals and a light wind but unfortunately the fish didn’t seem to agree and most of the juniors who fished struggled to get the larger fish interested. Plenty of small perch and small roach were caught, plus a few very small skimmers but nobody managed to get the bigger roach or skimmers to feed. Jamie Moore got the biggest weight overall, with 5lb 13oz from peg 26. Section winners were Jack Wilson (peg 9) and Zach Trattles (peg 35), both netting 5lb 2oz. Section Runners-up were Emily Palmer (peg 14) with 3lb of mainly small perch, and James Basnett (peg 36) with 4lb 15oz of roach and skimmers. The prize for the heavies fish was won by Tyler Bennett (peg 11) with a magnificent 1lb 5oz 8drm perch, with Simon Hicks (peg 37) being in runners-up position with an 8oz roach. Charlotte Clitheroe, Ben Nash, Joe Trattles and Jonathan O’Neill also won prizes for their catches. Many thanks to Browning for all the prizes which made this first Junior Open match such a success, and with their ongoing help we hope to make this an annual event.
