For the first time we fished a juniors’ match on the river, although conditions were far from ideal with blustery westerly winds of 20+ mph, bright sun and a low, clear and very slow river. Despite this, all competitors caught fish - although it was mainly small ones and none of the big perch or roach that have been relatively common here recently put in an appearance. Fortunately the pike didn’t show either! We fished pegs 8 to 12A on the Harker’s Farm stretch. Joe Trattles won from peg 8 with 5lbs of mainly small perch. Chris Taylor on peg 10 was second with 2lbs 10ozs, Joe Peel (peg 11) was third with 1lb 13ozs. Chris Carey fishing his first match was fourth with 1lb 10ozs from peg 9 and Ben Nash was fifth with 1lb 2ozs from peg 12A. Heaviest perch (6ozs 8drms) and dace (4 drms) prizes were shared by Joe Trattles and Chris Taylor, with Chris Carey catching the biggest roach (3ozs 8drms) and Joe Peel getting the prize for the biggest chublet (8 drms).
