The weather in the last two days before the match had a major influence, as the sudden drop in temperature chilled the water dramatically and the big roach that had been the mainstay in most people’s catches for the previous month went right of the feed.

So for many of the 20 entrants the match was a bit of “a grueller”. Method feeder with banded pellet brought a few bream for the top 3, and a single carp made up the majority of the weight of the fourth placed junior. All the other entrants tried hard for the roach, perch and skimmers on float tackle (pole or rod) but they just could not match the bream weights.

In first place, and winning a quiver tip rod, was Anthony Harker who weighed in 14lb 6oz of mainly bream with a few smaller roach caught on the pole. Before the match, Anthony had only had one attempt at casting a feeder, but by the end of the match he was somewhat of an expert.

Second was Will Oakes with 13lb 10oz. Again the majority of the weight was made up of feeder-caught bream, but Will was also the only angler who managed to keep the small roach feeding throughout the match so whenever the bream slowed down he was able to keep building his weight. Will is very much a beginner so this was a great performance for one so young. Will’s prize was a match float rod.

In third place was Adam Lancaster, with 7lb 11oz. Again feeder brought Adam a few bream but he did not manage to keep up with the other two and had to settle for third place and a Browning net bag.

Section winners and runners-up received a Browning reel and reel case. Joe Trattles won section 1 (by triple default) with 3lb 3oz, and Chris Taylor and Tyler Bennet tied for the runner-up position with 1lb 12oz. Paul Slater was the only angler to land a carp, which tipped the scales to 6lb 12oz and his shout of delight when it was safely in the net was probably heard by most of the other competitors. With a few small roach and perch adding 13oz to his total weight he comfortably won section 2. Joe Peel put together the heaviest net of small fish including a few bigger roach to 12oz, to finish as runner-up in section 2 with 5lb 12oz.

All other entrants received a prize of a tube of Zebco floats and hooks.
